Girls Inc. of Metropolitan Dallas hosted their second annual Power 2 the Girl Conference, a series of four events presented by Toyota, designed to empower girls from low-income, under-resourced areas of Dallas. This year’s conference, themed “Power H.E.R: Health, Equity, and Reform” taught nearly 800 girls the importance of mental health and self-care, and how to advocate for social justice and gender equity.
This year’s themes were carefully selected to address the pressing issues impacting girls today. After over a year of isolation, remote learning, and social unrest, many young girls are struggling. The sessions were designed as an innovative hybrid model of small in-person gatherings at schools with hands-on activities and live-stream components so guest speakers from across the nation could empower our Dallas girls.
Girls also had the unique opportunity to participate in a “Mentor Meetup,” a networking-style encounter with women from Event Lead Sponsors Toyota, Norton Rose Fulbright, CBRE, and Comerica Bank! During this virtual chat, girls received advice and encouragement about careers, college, and life answered by the professionals participating. Educational, girl-centric games were also available to girls through the generosity of Gamification Sponsor, Oliver Wyman!
This year’s sponsors include Toyota, Norton Rose Fulbright, Allstate Insurance Company, Pioneer Natural Resources, Oliver Wyman, CBRE, Comerica Bank, Ernst & Young, Boston Consulting Group, o9 Solutions, Jacobs Engineering, Baker Botts, Vizient, D Magazine, the Dallas Mavericks, TXU Energy, Witherite Law Group, Sidley Austin LLP, and National Security Bank.
