Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins reported 282 new cases and 13 deaths on Tuesday.
Dallas County will spend up to $30 million in federal coronavirus aid to pay for future vaccine efforts, according to the Dallas Morning News. This will include pop-up inoculation sites and walk-in clinics as the company, Colorado-based American Medical Response Ambulance Service, will begin work as early as next week.
Studies have shown that adults with weakened immune systems, including people with AIDS, cancer and organ transplants, may not respond to vaccines as healthy adults do. Experts are calling this phenomenon “vaccine failure” saying that research will need to be specifically designed to understand the risks of “vaccine failure” in varying forms of immune abnormalities. North Texas has enough COVID-19 vaccines for at least 12,000 vaccinations a day but fewer than 4,000 people are showing up, according to WFAA. Health officials are seeing a decrease in adults getting the first dose as many are concerned about the safety of getting the vaccine.
