The American Heart Association and American Stroke Association has recognized Parkland Health & Hospital System with the Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award, which recognizes commitment to appropriate, research-based treatment.

Stroke is the No. 5 cause of death in the United States, and every 40 seconds, someone in the US suffers from a stroke, totaling 795,000 people each year. Parkland’s medication evaluation and other stroke treatments led to quick recoveries and reduced mortality and disability for stroke patients. It also educated patients on managing their health and follow-up visits after being discharged from the hospital. It is the fifth consecutive year Parkland has received the award.

“A stroke patient loses 1.9 million neurons each minute stroke treatment is delayed. Parkland is dedicated to continuously improving the quality of care for our stroke patients by implementing the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines-Stroke initiative. The tools and resources provided help us track and measure our success in meeting evidenced-based clinical guidelines developed to improve patient outcomes,” said Jennifer Cross, Parkland Stroke Program Coordinator via release.
