Offering Hope for the Cancer Patient

In the battle against many forms of cancer the news is good. Many of the over 12 million Americans diagnosed with cancer last year will still be alive five years from now, leading active, healthy lives. Once considered a “death sentence,” certain cancers, when detected early, are found to respond readily to leading edge treatment.

Area residents are fortunate to have one of the foremost authorities in the treatment of cancer right here in Dallas. Orthope-die oncologist Richard G. Buch, M.D. is a highly trained physician who specializes in the reconstructive treatment of cancer and infection.

One of very few orthopedic oncologists in the country. Dr. Buch is dedicated to improving the quality of life of his patients. “The removal of cancer or infection is only the beginning of the orthopedic oncologist’s work,” says Dr. Buch. “With the modern advances in medicine today, physicians are not only able to restore function for the patient, but, in many cases, greatly improve his outlook on life after cancer.”

Board certified, Dr. Buch has expertise in the removal of bone and soft tissue tumors, infection, and the reconstruction of failed joint replacements. A graduate of the University of Illinois, he received medical training at Indiana University School of Medicine, with fellowship training at George Washington University Medical Center, Washington Hospital Center, and Children’s National Medical Center, including training at the National Cancer Institute. Clinical assistant professorat the Uni-versity of Texas Southwestern Medical School and previously at the University of Arkansas, Dr. Buch is also an instructor at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, consultant at Children’s Medical Center and Dallas Rehabilitation Hospital, and director of the Amputee Clinic and of the Musculoskeletal Infection Service at St. Paul Medical Center. Dr. Buch is a member of the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society and a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.
