Pigs have an image problem in the United States. But in other parts of the world, this portly pink creature gets a lot more play in traditions and folklore. In Chinese mythology, the pig is a symbol of honesty, tolerance, initiative, and diligence. In Germany, well wishers bring marzipan pigs to people for wir haben schwein, or good luck. We didn’t have to look far to find a source for marzipan pigs and all other things German: Inga and Jim Bowyer and Gina Green run Germandeli.com in Southlake, a business that has grown from a 1,500-square-foot space to a 16,000-square-foot warehouse containing the largest assortment of German products for an online merchant in the United States. The store is open to the public and holds seasonal cooking classes. So if you miss your Gommy Hilda’s spaetzle, you’ll find everything you need at this all-things-German outlet. 2890 Market Loop. 817-410-9955.
