15-Year-Old Shot and Killed By Balch Springs Police Officer. Jordan Edwards was a freshman at Mesquite High. He was leaving a party with friends on Saturday when he was shot through the passenger’s side window of the car he was in by Balch Springs police. He was unarmed. According to Balch Springs Chief Jonathan Haber, officers were responding to a call of intoxicated teens and said they heard gunshots. Community members want to know why the unnamed officer, who is on administrative leave, fired into the car.

Four Dead as Tornadoes Touch Down in Van Zandt County. Two more people are also unaccounted for, as search and rescue deals with the fallout from at least four tornadoes tearing through Canton and the surrounding area on Saturday evening. Here’s how you can help with the recovery.

Aunt Stelle’s Sno-Cones is Closed for 2017. Owners Lee Albert and Ed Schwartz announced on Facebook on Saturday that the Oak Cliff institution, in business since 1962, will sit out this year, citing “too many difficult events during our ‘off season.'” Saturday was supposed to be the shop’s opening day.
