Police and Fire Pension Board Backs Proposal For DART Funds. The board is officially requesting money from the transportation agency through a nonbinding resolution authored by city council and pension board member Scott Griggs. The sales tax portion that goes toward DART belongs to taxpayers, who should decide if they want to give the money to the troubled system, Griggs argued. That money has been dedicated to DART since the agency was created in 1983. Fellow board members Erik Wilson and Jennifer Staubach Gates objected the resolution, calling the move “political gamesmanship” by Griggs and council member Philip Kingston.
The Defense Rests in John Wiley Price’s Corruption Trial. In the final day of testimony Thursday, the longtime Dallas County commissioner’s legal team called only two witnesses—Assistant Dallas County Administrator Gordon Hikel and forensic accountant Chris Dellinges. Hikel disputed the government’s comments about Price’s alleged bribes and said some of the records he is accused of leaking were not legally confidential. Dellinges challenged claims concerning money the government maintains Price hid from income taxes, saying there was no income because the records weren’t properly reviewed. Testimony stretched over eight weeks, and Price did not testify. Jurors will begin deliberations after closing arguments Tuesday morning.
