The President Is Listening to Leon Bridges

At the very least, some White House communications flack wants us to think Obama's listening to the Fort Worth soul singer.

U.S. President Barack Obama dropped a hot new summer playlist on Twitter this morning, giving local man done good Leon Bridges the coveted No. 2 spot on his “Songs for the Daytime” mix. As real mixtape heads know, the second track is a true place of honor, kicking things into high gear after the place-setting introductory song.

Bridges’ “Smooth Sailin'” is included here among esteemed company, with classics by Aretha Franklin and Nina Simone fitting nicely alongside newer songs by the likes of Jay Z and Nas. We’re curious to know which cool intern hipped Obama to Chance the Rapper and Courtney Barnett. Maybe it was Malia.
