The original Black-eyed Pea restaurant will close tonight, ending a 40-year tradition of serving up their eponymous dish to help loyal diners ring in the New Year.
Restaurateur Gene Street founded The Black-eyed Pea in Dallas in 1975 with the Cedar Springs location, and this morning a sign on the front door posted to the restaurant’s Facebook page reads: “To all our loyal BEP customers: After 40 years, the building owner has decided to start a new restaurant concept in this location. Our last day is tomorrow, 1/2/16 — closing at 10:00 p.m. … We appreciate your loyal patronage over all these decades! We will miss you all and hope you have much luck in the New Year! Hope to see you down the road.”
We called to confirm and were told that, sadly, the news is true. They will be serving the full menu until 10 p.m.
