The man who once tried to sell you His ’n’ Hers camels for Christmas has begun (wouldn’t you?) a new career. At 76, Stanley Marcus is on the air with his own series of two-minute radio commentaries aired each weekday in Dallas on KRLD and on 32 other stations scattered across the country. Issues examined on “Another Opinion” run the gamut of “controversial” topics-from forest fires to jellybeans, and Christmas shopping to Chinese statues. The chairman emeritus of Neiman-Marcus and consultant for Bozell & Jacobs is under a contract with Dallas’ Sunbelt Network to deliver the talks, which, Marcus says, he often develops himself from newspaper and magazine clippings.
Marcus wants most, he says, to “be provocative.” But most times he steers clear of political issues. As for what he thinks of Paul Harvey, the brightly suspendered and traditionally gray-bearded Marcus sneers, “Well, we’ve nothing in common; he’s successful. I’m not.” Good day.
