Musician and occasional taco server St. Vincent discusses the creation of her own signature guitar in a video released today by axe-maker Ernie Ball Music Man. The erstwhile Dallas resident and DSO collaborator, whose parents named her Annie Clark, designed the guitar to fit her “form, playing technique and personal style.” She even hand-mixed its custom Vincent Blue color. (It also comes in black).
The video features some compelling insights from Clark, who talks about her relationship to the instrument — “a weapon, a shield” — and her early days playing the guitar. Like many kids inspired by the “grunge thing” of the 1990s, she really wanted to learn “Smells Like Teen Spirit.”
“I felt like I’d gotten the keys to the kingdom,” Clark says about her first songs on the guitar.
Music gearheads should appreciate Clark talking about the technical aspects of making the signature model, and her tour of the Ernie Ball factory.
The St. Vincent guitar will run you about $1,900. It goes on sale March 1. Watch the video below.
