If you don't want to blow your ears out with Mogwai, there is an architecture lecture at the DMA.

How’s the middle of your workweek going? Having a stressful day? Did you perhaps forget about a really important meeting? I have just the thing for you: Deafeningly loud instrumental music.

Mogwai—the Scottish band who practically defined the post-rock genre during the 90s—is playing at the Granada tonight. Any critic worth his or her crumpled notepad has at least one cliched story about how some band’s show is “still ringing in the ears,” and Mogwai is probably mine. I saw the band perform at New York’s Irving Plaza once upon a time, and they were so earth-shaking that I thought the venue’s stairwell was going to collapse.

For a far quieter evening, the Dallas Architecture Forum is hosting a lecture at the DMA, featuring the world-renowned Gregg Jones. Jones is principal of Pelli Clarke Pelli, who designed Hong Kong’s International Finance Centre, which towers over all other skyscrapers in the vicinity. Jones is currently head of a project with a bit more of a direct impact on your daily life—the monumental work taking place in Uptown, over on McKinney and Olive. That sloping edifice will eventually be a mixed-use hub that will significantly change Uptown, as the area hasn’t seen development of this scale since the high-flying 80s. You can find more info here.
