In the spirit of cheering myself up, I thought I’d take a crack at the post I intended to start off with yesterday. On Friday, there was a going-away shindig here at HQ. Paul, still in the throes of his Todd Dodge man-crush and possibly hopped up on chocolate brownies, suggested to Eric that UNT would lose to OU by seven points or less. Eventually they settled on 10 points (Eric is generous) and a bet was made.
When this was related to Tim and me, we both tried, futilely it turned out, to get in on the action. I mean, come on. Ten points! Paul’s reasoning was that, since Dodge had come to UNT from Southlake, OU had no tape on him and thus could not gameplan properly. Tim suggested that, by that rationale, since he had also not coached a college team, OU could not gameplan for him either. Cogent point. I added that if UNT lost by three touchdowns it would be an overwhelming victory.
If you missed it, UNT lost by … let’s see … carry the one … right, 69 points. To steal from DallasCEO, the takeaway: never bet on a team you expect to lose anyway, never bet on a team whose coach you get weak in the knees for, and always, always accept any wager Paul Kix offers you. Always.
