BONNIE BEHREND RESPONDS

|

We’ve mentioned Bonnie Behrend in this space recently. The late-’80s Channel 8 reporter recently lost an election in Aspen. Well, Behrend saw the posts and sends in the following letter:

Thanks for continuing to follow the events of my life. The chapters have been fairly dramatic. Had they not resulted in the loss of my home, career trajectory and belongings, taken my father’s life away and frightened my mother, I might be as snarky about it all as you are.

Sometimes print renditions of a Mayoral race can’t capture all the events. I didn’t go through town asking for votes. After local papers reported I was thinking of running, I went through town, interviewing people for work and socializing, many people asked me to run. As the low voter turnout indicated, maybe they were out of town in our particularly off off-season with the airport closed for two months, or maybe some thought I didn’t really want to do what they consider an awful job in a decidedly small town local, unglamorous part time position. A previously unknown supporter told me yesterday I could have “given them a run for the money had I played the game.”

Problem is … I might have won. I can assure you there are a few bad actors up here who do not want an investigative reporter with a blog in a City Hall.

Regardless, it was a great opportunity to produce fun posters which, for some reason, disappeared from all 10 locations within hours after being posted. The poster was distributed the night before the election only. I hear it’s now a collector’s item. So it’s now on sale for $500 primarily, I think, for the self-portrait photography, capturing the beauty of natural landscape and stunning sunburst over the Roaring Fork River just east of Aspen. I also have other photographs like it that I’m offering as well. They don’t have campaign platform text on them but, judging by the reaction, maybe I should add it.

I will be posting digitally-protected versions of the campaign poster and the others as soon as I figure out how to assign online digital rights and privileges in either Photoshop or FrontPage.

Thank you again for your interest.
