The weather should be good this weekend for a great spectacle out at White Rock Lake: the Leukemia Cup Regatta. Something sounds odd to me about a “Leukemia Cup.” Doesn’t quite have the ring, for instance, of Lord Stanley’s Cup or even the Piston Cup. But it’s fun to watch. Details after the jump:
Sailors from the North Texas area are setting sail to raise funds throughout the month of April in the fight against blood cancer. The Leukemia Cup Regatta is a blood cancer awareness fundraiser benefiting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and culminates in a weekend of sailing April 27-29 at White Rock Lake and May 4-6 at Lewisville Lake. This year marks the 6th annual event and will heartily surpass the half a million dollar mark in cumulative fundraising for The Leukemia Cup Regatta in Dallas.
Last year the North Texas Leukemia Cup Regatta raised over $115,000 to support the Society’s mission: cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodkin’s disease and myeloma and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. An estimated 1,250 people will participate in the two-weekend regatta and 175 boats will race. Dallas area residents can participate by pledging donations through the skippers and crewmembers who are racing; volunteering during the event weekends; or coming to cheer and spectate. Those interested in participating please call (972) 354-8308.
