This issue of DIAL, as you’ll see, is filled with program information, but I want to recommend a few special highlights.
A new series from Bill Movers is always welcome news. In Mayers: The Public Mind, a four-part series beginning Wednesday, November 8, at 9 p.m. on 13, public broadcasting’s premier journalist looks at how the media, public relations and opinion polls help influence the way we act as a nation.
On Channel 2, you can see an important and exciting new series produced by KDTN. TimeOut, which begins Wednesday, November 15, at 7:30 p.m., features North Texas athletes talking to students about the importance of staying in school and of refusing drugs. The series is partially underwritten by the Trammell Crow Group and Liddell, Sapp, Zivley, Hill and La Boon.
And at KERA 90.1, there’s the long-awaited premiere of Garrison Keillor’s American Radio Company of (he Air, the new variety series from the creator of A Prairie Home Companion. The weekly program will air on 90.1 live from Brooklyn at 5 p.m. Saturdays beginning November 25.
At this point, please allow me to say a few words about your membership in KERA. First of all, thank you. Your support has been crucial. Channel 13 begins its final pledge drive of the year Tuesday, November 28, and I can’t stress its importance too much. You may have read that our August drive fell short of its goal by quite a bit, and we hope to make up that shortfall in this upcoming fund-raiser. The continuing support of KERA’s core members is vital to our ability to bring you TV worth watching all year long, and I hope you’ll keep that in mind when the time comes to renew your membership and fulfill your pledge.
Finally, North Texas Public Broadcasting Inc.’s board of directors meets on November 13. At this time, I want to express my thanks to Pete Baldwin as he steps down this month after eight years as chairman of the board. His leadership was invaluable in making Channel 13, Channel 2 and KERA 90.1 what they are today. He will be missed by all of us. Best wishes.
Richard J. Meyer
