GOING NUCLEAR

|

This article yesterday in the NYTimes Magazine [reg. req.] about the resurgence of interest in nuclear power got me to thinking about those 17 coal plants Rick Perry wants to build. So I looked up Comanche Peak to see how it was going. It’s going fine, although nuclear only supplies 2 percent of our energy needs in Texas. But then I saw this from the government’s Energy Information Agency:

Of the 50 States plus the District of Columbia, the electric industry of the State of Texas ranked highest in Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emissions in 2004. Carbon Dioxide emissions are of concern because they contribute to global warming. The State’s electric industry ranks 5th highest in Sulfur Dioxide (SO2) emissions and 3rd highest in Nitrous Oxide (NOx) emissions.

Kinky, I think I just handed you a campaign platform.
