Thumbs down to Domingo Garcia. Rep. Fred Blair. and Joan Smotzer. co-chairs of the Unified Coalition for Police Reforms, for their demand that Police Chief Mack Vines resign. Chief Vines was brought into the DPD to take a department with poor relations in the minority community and improve the situation. And that he has set out to do. Calling for Vines’s resignation because he staled that an effort to strengthen the Citizens Police Review Board in the midst of this painful process was “ill-conceived” and a further blow to police ego was flatly out of line. Let’s see what Vines can do, let’s see how the current review board works out, before we start insisting that the new chief needs to start packing.
