Michael Rasansky asks another penetrating question, showing once again why he has earned his reputation as a financial illiterate:
“Why should we give one of the richest people in Dallas a tax break on choice property at the detriment of the citizens?”
What is it that suddenly makes this lot a “choice property”? It’s only a choice property if somebody wants to buy it. But like most of downtown that property has been occupied for years by an empty building and a parking lot. Nobody has wanted to have anything to do with it.
Who did Rasansky expect to buy and develop it, a poor person? By driving the rich out of the city, does he expect to make it a better place for the rest of us? I say we ought to roll out the red carpet for Ray Hunt and throw garlands at his feet. Buy some more, Ray. Tell us what you need to build more buildings. And if you happen to hear an arrogant loud mouth in the background, don’t mind it at all: he’s just here to remind us of the kind of attitude that kills cities.
