State Just Might Take Over DISD. Remember when Mike Morath, then a DISD trustee, tried to radically change the board and shape up the district? Now he’s the head of the TEA, and he has sent a letter to DISD and nine other struggling Texas districts demanding that their superintendents and boards undergo leadership training or face “serious sanctions.” One such sanction: a new law gives Morath the power to appoint his own board in each of the districts. This is a man playing the long game.

Frisco to Keep Four Schools Closed. To save money, Frisco ISD will delay by a year the opening of four schools under construction. Still don’t understand why you’d move to Frisco for the great schools, then vote down the tax increase needed to keep the schools open.

Computer Glitch Prevents Airline Bookings. Southlake-based Sabre handles the technology that runs many airlines’ computer systems. Southwest, JetBlue, and Virgin America all said that a Sabre screwup prevented customers from booking flights online yesterday. The problem has been resolved.

Sir Richard Branson Mocks Dallas. Yesterday, to celebrate the groundbreaking of the new 240-room Virgin Hotel, Branson wore a red cowboy hat while riding a horse named pepper through the Design District. Yee-haw!
