Behold the Sweet Spot Cotton Candy Dog at Globe Life Park

Take me out to the ballgame.

I nearly spit coffee on my keyboard this morning when I came across the above photo on Twitter of a hot dog covered in pastel cotton candy. My first thought was that it must be some kind of statement piece on gluttony, an art photograph depicting the outrageousness of the State Fair. Something along those lines. But then I clicked the link, and it took me to this story by the Dallas Business Journal. The cotton candy dog is real.

Globe Life Park has teamed up with food service provider Delaware North SportService to add five new concessions to their ballpark menu. There’s a two-foot-long brownie, a “smaller” version that is one foot long, a one-pound hot dog stuffed with macaroni and cheese and/or mashed potatoes, a pound of Cheetos smothered with meat and nacho cheese, and the cotton candy hot dog.

The dog is called the Sweet Spot Cotton Candy Dog. The all-beef hot dog is drizzled with with cotton candy-infused mustard and topped with cotton candy. It costs $10. Now, I’m not averse to fair food. I can chow down on a Fletcher’s Corny Dog better than the next guy. But the thought of biting into a beef hot dog that’s been drizzled with sugary mustard and topped with more sugar makes me gag.

What ever happened to the simplicity of squirting ketchup on a wiener and calling it a day?
