Tonight marks the first of a new lineup of classes about tea and tea culture at The Cultured Cup, the spot where anyone with an interest in tea finds him or herself at some point.

A specialist on Nepalese tea will explore Nepal’s culture of tea in this evening’s class. Others, slated through November, take you on a whirlwind tour of various angles of the world’s tea: a tasting of Darjeelings, along with a look at the tea estates perched in the famously fog-drenched heights; a deep dive into the dark, fermented bricks of pu’er tea; the tradition surrounding Turkish tea, made in a samovar and served in glasses; or the little-known Chilean tradition that reflects brushes up against immigrant British culture.

Classes are all held weekday evenings and Sunday afternoons ($25 for a two-hour class). All of them will be laced with history and liberally sprinkled with tastings.

We take no responsibility for bulk purchases of the cream oolong tea that tastes of buttered popcorn and is something close to tea Nirvana.
