Meet the Instructor: Jasmine Madson

The bodybar Studios instructor talks Pilates, her go-to brunch spot in Dallas, and finding balance.

Jasmine Madson spends her days as an interior designer but devotes her free time to working as a Pilates instructor with bodybar Studios. Madson is dedicated to and passionate about health and fitness, so we asked her how she defines living well in Dallas. Despite the many hours she spends on the Reformer, Madson still indulges in a burger from time to time. (Phew!) Get to know her.

How did you get to bodybar Studios?

After taking just one class at bodybar, I fell in love with everything about it – the workout, the studio, the instructors, and the atmosphere. I realized I would love to teach here (especially having fitness instruction in my background). Then, in May of 2014, my schedule aligned with their teacher training, and voilà! You have me in my current role.

Why is Pilates important to you?

The athletic, high-intensity reformer Pilates-based class format that we teach at bodybar is, in my opinion, among one of the most effective workouts that exist. It’s balanced, leads to incredible results, and is something almost anyone can do. It’s empowering, and that’s one of the reasons I most believe in its effectiveness. A client can begin doing Pilates at virtually any level of physical fitness and will be challenged, yet able, to complete classes at the level they’re at and will see their body begin to change immediately.

What does wellness mean to you, and how do you live well?

Wellness is a lifestyle. It’s exercise. Healthy eating. Seeking products that aren’t harmful to my body. It’s living conscientiously, purposefully, and always looking for ways to become increasingly more “well.” I am constantly looking for ways to one up myself, improve my diet, incorporate more activity into my day, and discover health hacks – things to do to live a little healthier each and every day. It’s all about the pursuit.

When you’re not at bodybar, you can be found sweating at …

CorePower Yoga, Flywheel, or Lync Cycling. I try to fit in a bodybar workout four to five days a week, but I love visiting new studios and trying alternate fitness routines.

What’s your favorite healthy restaurant in Dallas?

Over the past couple of years, quite a few healthy, locally sourced, fresh-focused restaurants have opened in Dallas. I think my very favorite would have to be Origin Kitchen + Bar. Paleo-focused and locally sourced, their menu is chef-driven and ever-changing. The food is healthy, yet so yummy. My brunch go-to is the seasonal hash bowl with grass-fed beef, avocado, and a side of Brussels sprouts. It’s life changing.

What’s your favorite cheat meal?

I do love a good burger. Preferably with bacon and avocado. Organic and grass-fed, of course, cheat or no cheat! D Magazine‘s burger issue last month has quickly turned into my dining guide for the next six months.

What’s your favorite local outdoor activity?

For me, outside time is a must. I go crazy if I go two days without time outdoors. Right now, my outdoor activity of choice tends to be walking the Katy Trail with my best friend, which we try to do whenever we have a free afternoon or evening. I kind of run at 110 percent seven days a week, so carving out time to relax in nature is how I stay balanced and well.
