You would think the weight of 50 marathon and 18 Ironman medals would put a crick in his neck, but Phillip Jones has his head on straight. As the CEO of the Dallas Convention Center and Visitor’s Bureau, he brings in big business to Dallas every day, and his long distance running keeps his eye on the prize.

Currently, Phillip Jones is training for the Columbia Business School Executive Challenge – a race within a race – at the Dallas Marathon December 11. The Executive Challenge dares Dallas senior executives to compete for the fastest time. Winners receive a $5000 donation to the Texas Scottish Rite in their name, and a chance to win free tuition to one of Columbia’s Executive Education courses.

Last week, we met up with Jones for an exclusive interview before his morning run on the Katy Trail. These are his secrets to success as a mastermind of strategy, endurance, and drive.
