When Emilie and Tim Love moved to Fort Worth from Breckenridge, Colorado, in 1998, the intersection of West 7th Street, University Drive, and Camp Bowie was lonely and inhospitable. Fred’s, a burger joint, was the only spot on the map. Likewise, Del Frisco’s and Reata had cornered the market on fine dining. Seventeen years later, the couple—who opened Lonesome Dove Western Bistro, in 2000—has witnessed more than one metamorphosis. “The biggest thing that has changed is really the restaurant scene,” she says. “I’ve seen it grow one hundred-fold.” The West 7th District has transformed from vacant lots into a popular, attractive boulevard and upped the retail scene with a mix of big-box stores and local shops that usher in an air of sophistication. Here, Love shares her favorite places to shop and grab a bite in the area.

Onslow’s

The store is stocked with what Love calls “adult clothes,” including brands such as Halston Heritage, Haute Hippie, and Michael Stars. She also appreciates the selection of handmade jewelry from Texas and Colorado designers.

Climate

Despite moving to a warmer climate, Love still stocks up on cold-gear essentials like Patagonia fleeces, vests, and puffer coats here.

Wrare

When Love needs a housewarming or hostess gift, she turns to this unique home goods store with quirky knickknacks and reliable basics. “They have the most fabulous, funky gifts here,” she says.

Luke’s Locker

Love teaches spin and barre classes at Abundio’s on the side. So when she needs new running shoes, workout tights, or tops, she browses this North Texas running shop.

Lane Knight

Sure, this store carries trendy, of-the-moment items like rompers and arm cuffs, but the selection is so pretty and refined that you’ll walk away looking classic and ultra-sophisticated.

ReVint Boutique

“I once got a dress that I wore to the National Food and Wine Festival here,” Love says of this vintage shop. “They also have vintage Chanel and Prada bags.”
