THUMBS UP to State Sen. Florence Shapiro, R-Plano, who deserves high praise for her tireless work in pushing “Ashley’s Laws” through the Texas Senate. The bills are dedicated to the memory of Ashley Estell. the 7-year-old Dallas girl who was abducted and murdered by a paroled sex offender. The new statutes, which include a 40-year no-parole sentence for repeat offenders, will give Texas the toughest such laws in the nation.
