Net Cost: ZERO

By Brad Bailey |

IF YOU’RE WORRIED THAT THE Internet may one day be dominated by corporations and news organizations rather than the average Webhead, take heart. Dallas lawyer John E. Collins and computer expert Tom Karches, in conjunction with North Lake College and other volunteers, are creating North Texas FreeNet, a free link-up with the Internet that will be available to all citizens through local libraries and schools.

The Freenetters have purchased server-computers and designed a system that awaits only the people necessary to administer it and to man the lines. They’ve applied tor federal grants to fund a staff, but in these GinGrinchian times, money for worthy causes is by no means guaranteed. If you’re interested, E-mail [email protected] com or write: North Texas Freenet, Box 227484. Dallas, Texas 75222.
