This month, Channel 13 makes a significant change. Instead of sponsoring a single 11-day auction as we have in past years, we have scheduled a five-day Masterpiece Auction in April and a one-day Channel 13 Dream Auction in October. Throughout the year, we are placing a new emphasis on special events such as lectures and seminars.
The Masterpiece Auction features five nights of exciting trips, cars, purebred racehorses, custom furniture – and a host of other dazzling items and services -Saturday-Wednesday, April 20-24, at 6 p. m. each evening.
We decided to make these changes in our auction because of comments we’ve received from Channel 13 members. In years past, many of you have noted that our annual auction lasted too long and that you weren’t interested in many of the items and services we offered.
The Masterpiece Auction responds to these comments by being much shorter and more selective in its items. The items we’re offering, all valued at $1, 000 or more, are intriguing and exciting. We hope you’re pleased with the changes we’ve made – including the amount of time saved for our usual programming. Please tune in and bid on the items of your choice; also, we would like to hear from you about your reactions to the Masterpiece Auction.
Also airing this month is a delightful new KDTN production, A Conversation With John Cleese. The half-hour special premieres Tuesday, April 9, at 7: 35 p. m. on Channel 2, and is repeated both Wednesday, April 10, at 9: 30 p. m. and Saturday, April 13, at 12: 30 a. m. on Channel 13.
In this program, I think you’ll see new sides to this brilliant comedian and writer as he’s interviewed by Bob Ray Sanders. For those of us who’ve had the privilege to meet and talk with him, it isn’t a surprise to listen to him speak about a variety of subjects -both serious and comic. His interests and reading span a variety of disciplines, with particular emphasis on the works of Freud, Jung and B. F. Skinner.
We’ve been able to work with John, despite his busy schedule, because of his warm feelings about Channel 13. He’s never forgotten that Channel 13 was the first television station in this country to broadcast Monty Python’s Flying Circus. We count ourselves as fortunate to work with him – and hope for more of these opportunities in the future. In the meantime, we hope you enjoy A Conversation With John Cleese. Best wishes.
