Thumbs up to Congressman John Bryant, D-5, for blocking $5 million in federal funding for DART. It’s not just that it takes guts for a politician to close the gate on a pork barrel pipeline. Bryant’s actions send the right message to the transit agency at the right time. DART’s waffling and indecision do not merit a multimillion-dollar cash infusion from the feds. The MKT again? Raises for the staff? DART money for roads’? Let’s get our act together first and tap the treasury later. DART should have a strong plan with solid citizen support before the government sweetens the deal with federal money.
