Thumbs down to city councilman Al Gonzalez for his opportunistic stunt in the wake of the shooting of police officer John Chase. Gonzalez had voiced a few mild criticisms of the police department in recent months, perhaps in response to pressure from the few of his constituents who are not wealthy and do not live in North Dallas. Then came the shooting of Chase. The police hinted that they might not want to see Al at the; funeral. The next day. Al held a press conference at the killing site. As the cameras rolled, he leapt from his chair, drew a chalk line on the pavement, and ordered crooks out of town or else. Like the worst kind of politician, Gonzalez saw which way the crowd was running and rushed to get in front.
