THUMB AWARD Attention Span Adjustment?

|

Thumbs down to the Dallas City Council for accidentally approving pay increases totaling $152,494 for the city attorney’s Staff. Apparently council members did not know what they were approving last September when they okayed a “salary range adjustment” for the city’s legal staff as part of the 1986-1987 budget. The sixty-four attorneys will receive raises averaging 8.3 percent, with some getting as much as 14 percent. City Attorney Analeslie Muncy may he right in saying that the higher pay-is needed if the city is to compete with private law firms, but at a time when all city employees were required to take salary cuts of 1 to 5 percent, the bungle seems particularly glaring.
