On Monday June 15, over two hundred Dallas business leader will tee it up at Gleneagles Country Club in the 14th Annual Young Life Invitational Golf Tournament, benefitting a Cluistian youth ministry which had its roots here in Dallas forty-six years ago. Bond Beams is 1387 Tournament Chairman.

In 1941, a young Dallas Theological Seminary graduate, Jim Rayburn. and (wo Dallas brothers..John and Orville Mitchell, were lamenting together one day over the fact that two-thirds of America’s youngsters of high school age did not attend church. They reasoned that if the organized churches were (ailing to attract kids to them, the logical solution to the problem was to take the message of the church to the kids instead. Attendance at a church building could come later.

This simple concept of a one-on-one friendship ministry, at the kids’ level and on their turf was the birth of Young Life – winning a hearing for the Gospel of Christ simply by being a friend and showing an interest. Weekly get-togethers in homes with songs, zany skits, Bible study and personal testimony soon expanded to include weekend retreats, summer camps and winter ski trips. The results were often little short of miraculous.

“Vve don’t know what happened last summer in Colorado,” said one father, “but we sure like the result. Our son Bill now cute the grass without being nagged, and his room is now kept as neat as a pin.”

“Since Man’ returned from her Young Life ski dip,” said one mother, “she’s a different girl. We’ve never been as close to one another as we are now. She’s even volunteered to lake out (he vacuum cleaning job in our home. It is obvious that she is now selling Someone higher up than her mother.”

With clubs now in over 1200 high schools around the country, 2G here in the Dallas area. Young Life is supported entirely by the generosity oflocal citizens, parents and businessmen who realize from firsthand experience that they are making a superb investment in the citizens of tomorrow.

One fund raising event here in the Dallas area is the annual Young Life invitational Golf Tournament. Never was a golf ball hooked, sliced, topped, whiffed, chili-dipped or sailed out of bounds in a better cause. Come join us and see tor yourself.
