THUMB AWARD PETITION PAY-OFFS

|

Thumbs Down to Farmers Branch businessman Francis Winn for offering 50 cents for each signature on petitions calling for a second Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) election next month in Carrollton, Farmers Branch and Addison. First of all, calling for another vote is one giant step backward when we’re already far enough behind in our fight against traffic problems. Secondly-and more importantly-paying for signatures is wrong. Winn spent thousands of dollars on the recall vote before he offered the signature money and had 30,000 anti-DART pamphlets printed and distributed. Both actions were fair play; this third tactic, however, not only shows that he was desperate for support, but also that he was willing to do anything to get it.
