COMPANY: Trident Response Group LLC

TITLE: President and co-founder

DETAILS: Within 48 hours of Hurricane Katrina, former Navy SEAL Bruce helped assemble 10 former special forces soldiers to extract 600 New Orleans inhabitants. Since then, Bruce has made crisis prevention and response his business for nearly two dozen companies, mostly in Texas.

WHY YOU NEED TO KNOW HIM: Because he might save your life or the lives of your family or employees.

If you or your employees travel overseas, you risk kidnapping, robbery, or even worse. In July and August, the K&R and Extortion Monitor reported 50-plus attempts to kidnap oversea employees or family members.

Bruce advises execs to keep a low profile when abroad. One example: Avoid wearing wedding rings while traveling. “If I have a wedding ring, I [might] have kids, and if I have kids, that’s more leverage they have against me,” he reasons.

More plot-foiling advice from Bruce:

Triple-book flights, hotel rooms, and rental cars, with the intention of canceling unused accommodations in short order.

Speak guardedly around strangers, especially regarding business or travel plans.

Use only officially licensed taxis. Doing otherwise will likely result in being overcharged (at best) or being robbed at knifepoint (that happened with one local executive and his wife).
