I’d like to thank Alan Peppard, longtime society columnist for the Dallas Morning News, for refraining from commenting in graphic detail about either Channing Tatum or Kate Upton when he stopped by the Old Monk yesterday afternoon. His (relatively) chaste stories made for an easily edited episode of EarBurner.
A few notes to elucidate the proceedings:
1. “Plenary” is an adjective meaning “complete in every respect” or “attended by all the people who have a right to attend.” It derives from the Latin plenarius, meaning “full” or “absolute.” Peppard is speaking at a “plenary session” at the Mayborn Literary Nonfiction Conference this weekend.

The cover story of the September 1986 issue of Art & Antiques, the publisher of which was one Wick Allison, revealed a previously unknown collection of paintings by Andrew Wyeth of a woman named Helga Testorf, who was rumored to be Wyeth’s mistress. 8. Alan Peppard’s first professional byline, in the October 1984 issue of D Magazine, was a piece about the cars of choice for a slew of well-known Dallasites.
