Welcome to the first installment of our new summer series, Laps of Luxury. Each Friday, we’ll choose a home on the market that boasts a beautifully over-the-top pool.

This week’s pool is a true gem. It’s nestled behind 3639 Beverly Drive, a Spanish-style home on one of the most coveted streets in Highland Park.

3639 Beverly was built in 1921. A century later, it’s still in impeccable shape. We love its antique aura and old-school details, like the ornate arch that frames the front entrance, the mahogany-paneled study, and the French doors that lead to the backyard.

Today, as the Texas sun beats down on us and temperatures rise to the mid-90s, that backyard couldn’t look more appealing.

The first thing you’ll notice is that there’s more water than grass–the pool is massive. It’s an unconventional layout, but it works.

Stonework around the pool’s edge adds visual interest and texture; it also complements the home’s Mediterranean feel. The water takes on a cool cerulean tone thanks to blue tiling inside the pool.

The shallow end sidles up to the cabana. Should you get overheated while sipping a summery white sangria, you can pop in and sit for a bit while the water runs over you. As you approach the guest quarters, the water deepens. (Future residents, if you would like to rent out said guest quarters, you know where to find me.)

Three stone fixtures act as a bridge, so you can easily cross the pool. They also offer a surface to set your drink as you swim.

And finally, the piece de resistance: the secluded lap pool off to one side. It’s shaded by trees for hot summer days, but also boasts an underwater light for early morning swims.

Take a full tour of the pool with the gallery below.

3639 Beverly Drive is listed by Christopher McGuire at Compass Real Estate and is on the market for $5,495,000.
