I used to live under the false assumption that home tours were a spring thing, and more specifically, an April thing. I know better now. Below are a few Dallas tours celebrating great architecture, great architects, and the preservation of some of our cities most charming neighborhoods to take you through 2018. Plan your weekends accordingly.

October 20 & 21

AIA Dallas Tour of Homes

The American Institute of Architects knows how to put on a home tour. This year’s fall tour features seven stunning homes, including a modern Casa Loma treasure by Eddie Maestri and a box-within-a-box house that probably needs to be seen to be truly understood.

*Buy tickets for the whole tour, or buy a reduced ticket for just one.

October 20 & 21

Heritage Oak Cliff Home Tour

2223 W. Jefferson Boulevard, aka the L. O. Daniel mansion.

One of Dallas’ oldest home tours may also be the largest. Nine homes from different Oak Cliff neighborhoods will be featured this year. Be sure to make time for a beautifully preserved 1909-built home (a protected historic landmark) known as the L.O. Daniel mansion.

*Buy tickets online or at the Tomb Thumb on Hampton Road.

The group puts on two tours a year—one in the fall and one in the spring. This fall’s tour focuses on beloved Dallas architect Charles Dilbeck, known for whimsical storybook cottages and ranches as well as more sprawling French Norman estates.

November 9 – 11

The Lakewood Home Festival

Benefiting the Lakewood Early Childhood PTA, this enchanting tour is part of the greater Lakewood Home Festival each fall, which also includes an auction party. Be sure not to miss the candlelight tour on Saturday night.

*Buy tickets to the candlelight tour, or a reduced daytime tour ticket online.

December 8

Visit holiday-ready homes in the historic district’s tour, a celebration of old and new. The December event also includes a silent auction at The Turner House on Rosemont Avenue.
