The first thing Dwell with Dignity asks families is, “What two colors make you the happiest?” Most often, Dwell with Dignity’s clients leave a shelter with very few possessions. Even after working hard to gain self-sufficiency, many don’t dream of a space made for just for them. But they can always share what colors inspire them. This becomes the foundation of the entire project; Dwell with Dignity staff and volunteers paint furniture and create custom artwork inspired by the family’s favorites. This exemplifies how Dwell with Dignity truly lives up to its name: clients are treated with dignity and respect throughout the whole process of creating a new home and environment, and as a result, they can begin to thrive.
