It’s Friday, and I am loving this weather. I’m also loving the intel from my friend and future husband, ID Collection’s Jim Williamson. Today I am posting from LA, the land of the lovely and the loony. We normally stay in Malibu, but since the house has been leased for a few years I guess a suite at the Mondrian will just have to do. Within minutes of arriving at the hotel, I had my first sighting: Whitney Port. She is a even more adorable in person. Is she a star? Ehhhh.
After we settled in poolside, we quickly made friends with the fun couple next to us, one of who just happened to be an interior designer from Atlanta. Go figure. Also pool side were lots and lots of happy Brits. Crikey. LA is apparently a mecca for our vacationing cousins from across the puddle.
Later that evening, and a little more medium-rare than planned, we drove to Santa Monica to have dinner with friends at the Hungry Cat. It is always a delicious experience. We go there almost every time we are in town. It’s little wonder that the Hungry Cat litter has grown to five.
The best part of the trip so far has been the concert at the Hollywood Bowl. Passion Pit opened for Hot Chip. Thanks to our friend Nate Donmoyer, the drummer for Passion Pit who has a new solo album called Halo by Shuttle, who gave us the tickets. I guess having his lovely girlfriend as my new adopted goddaughter by cohabitation has its advantages. My association now makes me the coolest uncle ever according to my niece. It was a great night spent outdoors without the immediate fear of West Nile looming. LL Cool J was seated a few boxes over, as well as about 18,000 other folks. I think the best quote of the evening, which may or may not have come from our box, was this: “It’s really hard being #%%!ed up and holding my stomach in at the same time.”
Tonight, I head back to Santa Monica for a happy hour at the Buffalo Club and then, who knows? On a final note to happy couples by the pool everywhere who want to eat each other’s faces off after too many cocktails: we are at a hotel for a reason. It has rooms. Lots of them. Go there now.
Until next time.
