Fun Fridays with Jim Williamson

This week, ID Collection’s Jim Williamson talks to us about the idea of “perfection.” Here’s what he has to say: “The word ‘perfection’ is slightly overused, but it sure has a nice ring to it. Especially when it’s used by the person you are dating to describe you—even after he sees you in a room without a dimmer switch and notes the pre-middle-aged acne you’re sporting. (The ‘pre-middle-age’ thing makes me feel younger.)

Anyway, ‘perfection’ also sound likes a great idea for a showroom. But accumulation happens–not unlike what happens in homes. We obviously avoid Hoarders-style madness, but that pursuit of perfection takes a lot of time and energy. Something always needs to be moved, repaired, and cleaned.

All of this leads me to Heritage Pearl from de Le Cuona. It was woven on antique looms that require thousands upon thousands of old punch cards to create this beautiful paisley in the softest wool and cotton you can imagine. But what makes this item absolutely perfect are the subtle imperfections created when using antique looms.

So, we can take a cue from the de Le Cuona fabric. We should embrace the imperfections that make our homes what they are—even when the dog shreds the squeaky toy all over the living room, the kids trash the family room, and the cat coughs up a hairball.”
