Seventeen North Texas physicians will assume leadership positions at this week’s Texas Medical Association Fall Conference. They were appointed or elected to various boards, councils, and committees and look at healthcare issues to make policy recommendations to support the 53,000 physicians and medical students in the TMA, the nation’s largest medical association.

Dr. John T. Carlo, a public health and preventive care specialist, will be on TMA’s Council on Legislation, which monitors and develops strategies on pending legislation and advocates for legislation at the state and national levels.
Dr. Wendy M. Chung, a pediatric infectious disease specialist, was appointed to serve as chair of TMA’s Council on Science and Public Health, which develops TMA policy on public health and medical science issues.
Dr. Gates B. Colbert, a nephrologist was reappointed to TMA’s Committee on Physician Distribution and Health Care Access, which analyzes the physician, nursing, and allied health care workforce.
Dr. Robert Lee Fine, an internist and palliative care physician was reappointed to TMA’s Council on Health Service Organizations, which makes recommendations and takes action related to the organization of and services provided by patient-care facilities.
Dr. Zachary S. Jones, an anesthesiologist, was elected to TMA’s Council on Science and Public Health.
Dr. Seth Kaplan, a pediatrician, was elected to TMA’s Council on Socioeconomics, which makes recommendations about the socioeconomic factors of medical care and regulations.
Dr. Benjamin C. Lee, a pediatrician, was reelected to TMA’s Council on Science and Public Health.
Dr. David P. Mason, a thoracic surgeon, was appointed as a consultant to TMA’s Committee on Cancer, which supervises TMA’s cancer-related activities and educates physicians and patients about cancer.
Dr. Wendy C. Parnell, an obstetrician-gynecologist, will be on TMA’s Committee on Physician Distribution and Health Care Access.
Eduardo J. Sanchez, MD, an internist, was reappointed as a consultant to TMA’s Council on Science and Public Health.
Dr. Les Secrest, a psychiatrist, was reappointed as a consultant to TMA’s Council on Legislation.
Dr. Astrud S. Villareal, a family physician, will be on TMA’s Committee on Continuing Education, which monitors and studies continuing medical education and recommends TMA policy.
Dr. Caryn Michelle Forbes, a pediatrician, was reappointed to TMA’s Committee on Medical Home and Primary Care, which promotes the medical home and integration of primary care, community care, and public health.
Dr. Carrie de Moor, an emergency physician, was elected to TMA’s Council on Socioeconomics.
Dr. C. Shane Hall, a family physician, was reelected to TMA’s Council on Practice Management Services, which oversees all association practice-management services provided directly to physicians and their staff.
Dr. Archana Rao, an internist, was reelected to TMA’s Council on Health Service Organizations.
Dr. Neha V. Dhudshia, an internist, was reelected to TMA’s Council on Health Promotion, which oversees community outreach programs.
