Texas Health Alliance Opens Expanded Emergency Department

Phase one of an ED expansion at Texas Health Alliance has been completed.

Texas Health Alliance has opened the doors to its newly expanded emergency department—the first phase of a two-part, $25 million construction project that eventually will grow the ED to more than twice its previous size.

The project’s first phase added 22,000 square feet of space, including 20 new ED rooms. Phase two, which will begin in January, will include the renovation of 8,500 square feet of former ED space. That space will be converted into 14 more ED rooms.

The second phase of the overall project—for which the Dallas office of HKS is serving as architect of record—is expected to be completed by July.

“The North Tarrant region is growing, with more people choosing to call the area home each day,” Clint Abernathy, president of Texas Health Alliance, said in a news release. “That means healthcare needs will continue to increase, and we want to grow alongside the region to meet those needs.”

The emergency department at Texas Health Alliance, which is part of Arlington-based Texas Health Resources, cares for about 33,000 patients annually.
