Irving’s enormous healthcare membership company Vizient DFW announced Monday that the acquisition of the supply chain management portion of Georgia-based MedAssets has closed.
Vizient is the new name of post-merger VHA Inc. and UHC. VHA was based in Irving and primarily counted hospitals and providers among its clients. UHC was based in Chicago and provided the same services to academic health centers. They merged last year, renamed the company as Vizient, and began operating its headquarters out of Irving. It provides contracting services, data analytics, and purchasing negotiations to their members and says it is America’s largest member-owned healthcare company with the largest purchasing power.
London’s Pamploma Capital Management spent $2.7 billion last year acquiring MedAssets and decided to sell the supply chain management portion of the company to Vizient. Known as Sg2, Vizient says it will not rebrand the company and will absorb its business by the end of 2016.
“Through the combined strengths of Vizient, MedAssets’ SCM business and Sg2, we will be even better positioned to help health care providers build innovative connections that address today’s challenges and anticipate tomorrow’s opportunities – ultimately empowering better business performance and improving healthcare,” read a statement from Curt Nonomaque, the CEO of Vizient.
