Medicaid Expansion Won’t Overwhelm Physicians, Researchers Say

|

Medicaid expansion will not overwhelm U.S. physicians, according to a study in Medicare & Medicaid Review.

Researchers from the Government Accountability Office and the Washington-based Center for Studying Health System Change based that estimate on the fact that the creation of the Children’s Health Insurance Program did not create an onslaught of patient demand on U.S. pediatricians in 1997.

They found that pediatricians in states with the largest CHIP expansion actually reduced their work hours compared with states with smaller expansion.
