Metrocare Services names John Burruss CEO

Metrocare Services, the largest nonprofit provider of mental health and developmental disability services in Dallas, has named John Burruss, M.D., its new CEO beginning April 30.

Burruss replaces former CEO James Baker, who stepped down to practice medicine full time at Metrocare. Linda Thompson served as interim CEO.

Before joining Metrocare, Burruss served as executive medical director for Affiliates and Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He also previously served as associate dean of Clinical Affairs and interim chief medical officer at Baylor College.

Metrocare employs 600 and care for nearly 50,000 people each year through programs, services, and support for people dealing with mental illness, developmental disabilities, and severe emotional disturbances.

“Mental health is a serious and growing challenge in our society and one that’s still filled with public misperceptions.,” Burruss said in a statement. “I welcome the opportunity to work with Metrocare’s talented employees to help erase the stigma of mental illness and give individuals and families the treatment and support they truly deserve.”
