Police Release 911 Calls From Colleyville Synagogue Hostage Situation. Just short of a year since a gunman took Congregation Beth Israel hostage, police released the 911 calls from parishioners watching the service on a livestream and those who were held inside. The rabbi eventually threw a chair at Akram and helped the hostages safely exit; police shot Akram dead.

Dallas Admits It Screwed Up New Trash Schedule. After citywide complaints of sanitation trucks not picking up trash and recycling on the new designated dates, Dallas leaders faced questions from Council. The city changed the routes for the first time in a decade on December 5, ostensibly to allow workers to have five 8- and 9-hour days as opposed to four 10- to 12-hour days. Jay Council, who is in charge of sanitation services, said the city could have chosen a warmer month that wouldn’t have had the risk of an arctic blast. It also rolled out the new program despite having only half its fleet of trucks; its order had not been fulfilled. If you’re having issues with pickup, report it to 311.
