Once Again, Cistercian Prep Wins North Texas Giving Day

The headline is better if you read it in a Hungarian accent.

Once again, North Texas Giving Day broke its previous record, this year raising $39,379,446 for North Texas nonprofits. Once again, I am duty bound to tell you that my wife does PR for the effort. And once again, I get to brag that my alma mater, Cistercian Prep, won North Texas Giving Day and wound up atop the leaderboard. Sure, sure, everyone wins when this much money is raised for great organizations that do good work in our community. But Cistercian won more. Certainly more than St. Mark’s.

It must be reassuring to be good at something.

Is it indelicate to ask how a private school with exclusive admission criteria and $18,0000 annual tuition rates charity? No offense–just curious.

    • PeterTx52

a large part of the funds raised go towards scholarships and financial aid. as for “exclusive admission” not sure what you mean
      from their website
“In evaluating a candidate’s application file, the Admissions
Committee considers the following factors: grade report from his
previous school, courses taken, admission test scores, writing sample,
teacher evaluation, informal interview, and an applicant’s relation to
      current Cistercian students or alumni.
Cistercian Preparatory School does not discriminate in the administration of its admission and education policies on the basis of race, color, religion, or national or
      ethnic origin.”

  • A fair question and a fine answer.

And to all: please know that I am having fun here. When I went to CPS (class of ’88), the school was the poor (but academically rigorous) stepchild of Dallas private schools. St. Mark’s, EDS, pretty much every other school — they licked us on the court and field (not always but mostly). So it’s with good humor that I brag about CPS’ fundraising. I hope no one’s feathers get too ruffled.
