Take a Moment To Read the DMN’s Latest Story on West, TX

For months, the Morning News has consistently done a great job of covering the fertilizer plant explosion in West, Texas, and its aftermath. The big takeout they ran this weekend is no exception. Do yourself a favor — even if you read it already — to check out the online version here. It’s a good use of multimedia storytelling. What Sarah Mervosh and Dave Tarrant wrote doesn’t need much of a boost, but it still benefits from the work of the DMN’s web team.

Good web design work is the only future daily newspapers have as their print versions fade to black, and this is an example of how it can be done to draw in web traffic and make that traffic want to return again and again. Every story, big or small, should combine quality reporting, writing and editing along with a visually engaging presentation. It may sadden an old wordsmith from blue pencil days, but it shouldn’t. The medium is the message, and this is just the new way of imparting the info to readers.

That is absolutely unreadable on iPhone. The DMN website continues to be horrible.

Very nice. Good job to all. Very similar to the NY Times “Snow Fall” coverage online. http://www.nytimes.com/projects/2012/snow-fall/?_r=0#/?part=tunnel-creek

    DMN is coming around….
