LOCAL AUTHOR DOES GOOD

Some of you may have heard of a little publication in the northeast called The New Yorker. If you happen to subscribe, you probably skip the short story in each issue because, c’mon, you gotta skip something if you’re going to keep up with that thing. But do not skip “Ashes” by Cristina Henriquez in the July 4 issue. Henriquez, whose married name is Kowalczyk, lives here and is extremely pleasant and obviously talented. She recently quit her PR job at KERA to focus full-time on her writing, and she’s got a book of short stories called Come Together, Fall Apart to be published next April or so. Nice.
