It’s the middle of the afternoon and you catch a hankering for a bowl of piping hot egg drop soup. Problem is you’re downtown Dallas, and can’t leave your desk. Who do you call? Apparently there aren’t many options, actually.

I set out to find the best delivery egg drop soup in town this week, and only found three places that were open at noon and also delivered to downtown Dallas. The soup contenders: Howard Wang’s Uptown, Szechuan Chinese Restaurant, and The Wok. If you have any recommendations, please, please, please share them with us in the comment section below.

The soup:
A. Howard Wang’s Uptown
B. Szechuan Chinese Restaurant
C. The Wok

Tasting notes:

Howard Wang’s Uptown $6

  • Silky egg, thin broth, best taste.
  • The egg is strong with this one. Feels like it would make a good breakfast soup, whatever that’s worth.
  • Very egg-y. Easy to eat. Simple. Love it.
  • Salty, egg-y, but nothing special.

Szechuan Chinese Restaurant $2.50

  • GROSS. Looks like egg yolk, gelatinous.
  • Pretty similar to A. Makes me imagine a boxer cracking eggs into a glass and drinking them for training.
  • Not a fan. Looks like egg yolk, weird flavor.
  • A nice sweet corn flavor. A fully-rounded egg drop soup.

The Wok $1.50

  • Tastes like water.
  • Like a weird carton egg, but not in a bad way.
  • Pretty sure that is just hot water with junk floating in it. Boo. Gross.
  • Holy hell. This tastes like hot egg tap water.

Tally up:

A. Howard Wang’s Uptown 3
B. Szechuan Chinese Restaurant 1
C. The Wok 0

The winner is:

The tasters chose Howard Wang Uptown’s soup as their favorite. I have to say that I, like one of the tasters, preferred Szechuan Chinese Restaurant’s bright yellow version of the classic Chinese soup. So who makes your favorite egg drop soup in town? Are they open for lunch? Do they deliver to downtown Dallas? Let us know in the comments below.
